RailNetEurope (RNE) started in January 2004 on the initiative of several European railway Infrastructure Managers and Allocation Bodies (IMs/ABs), who wished to establish a common, Europe-wide organisation to facilitate their international business. Today RNE counts 38 Full Members from over 30 different countries and 8 Associate Members (the Rail Freight Corridors). In total their rail networks add up to well over 230 000 kilometres of railway lines.
