RNE begins Network Coordinator role at first joint event with ENIM

RailNetEurope (RNE) participated in its first official event as Network Coordinator alongside the European Network of Infrastructure Managers (ENIM) at Connecting Europe Days 2026 in Brussels.

The joint presence followed ENIM’s first plenary meeting on 23 September 2026, where RNE was appointed as Network Coordinator. It provided an early opportunity to present the two organisations’ complementary roles and engage with European institutions, Infrastructure Managers (IMs), partners and other rail sector representatives

From appointment to joint action

The joint presence at Connecting Europe Days 2026 marked the beginning of this cooperation in practice. At the stand, representatives introduced the respective responsibilities of ENIM and RNE and exchanged perspectives with stakeholders on European rail coordination, digitalisation and cross-border cooperation.

Visitors could also test in practice the Train Information System (TIS) from a dedicated stand. The solution brings together real-time passenger and freight train information to improve the coordination of international rail traffic.

Celebrating European rail cooperation

A get-together at the joint stand marked two recent milestones: ENIM’s establishment following its first plenary meeting and RNE’s appointment as Network Coordinator. The gathering created an informal setting for exchanges with stakeholders and partners and helped communicate how ENIM and RNE will work together.

The event linked these milestones with the practical work ahead; ENIM provides strategic direction for cooperation among IMs at European level, while RNE in its role as Network Coordinator supports the preparation and implementation of common European methodologies, harmonised processes and digital services.

This cooperation is intended to strengthen coordination on capacity planning and management, improve access to information and support stakeholder involvement across European rail networks.

Continuing cooperation with the sector

Following ENIM’s plenary, consultations have opened on the draft ENIM Work Programme for 2027–2028 and the draft Consultation Guidelines. The documents set out ENIM’s initial priorities and propose a common approach to stakeholder dialogue on European and cross-border railway matters.
