The Train Information System (TIS) informs users about the location of their trains and goods throughout their journey.
It is a web-based application that provides real-time train data, focusing on international passenger and both international and national freight train traffic.
Currently, there are over 5.300 active users coming from 220 companies.
Every year we conduct a survey to ask users of Train Information System about their experiences.
The survey of 2024 clearly showed that TIS is a very important and often used tool for Infrastructure Managers (IMs), Railway Undertakings (RUs), and terminal operators.
The Train Information System
With just one click, TIS offers real-time
- Train monitoring
- Direct reports
The system offers additional features, such as the Incident Management Tool, to ensure an integrated user experience.

The 2024 TIS Survey Results
In total 470 participants took the time to help us further improve TIS.
Thank you to each participant for your valuable feedback and support!

Your Feedback Drives Our Improvements
TIS Mobile
Users shared valuable feedback about the mobile version:
- Performance issues, such as slow loading times on the front page.
- Suggestions for customisable default filters to improve usability.
- Interface concerns, particularly for train drivers who find the mobile layout less intuitive than the web version.
- Frustrations with zooming functionality on maps.
Our Response:
A new TIS Mobile version is under development and will address many of these issues, including improved map interaction and enhanced performance.
The prototype is expected by Q2 2025, with availability on both the Play Store and App Store.
Visibility of Trains
Many users requested:
- Comprehensive visibility of all trains, including cross-border and local services.
- Improved handling of trains operating under different numbers across borders.
- Enhanced map displays, including the ability to view trains of other railway units.
Our Response:
We encourage users to report specific cases to support.tis@rne.eu for resolution.
Meanwhile, we are working on solutions to enhance train visibility in collaboration with our technical teams.
Estimated Time of Arrival
Users expressed concerns about inaccurate estimated times of arrival (ETAs) and requested advanced features, such as automatic notifications based on specific user requirements.
Our Response:
The Network ETA Project is underway, aiming to use machine learning and historical data to provide precise, real-time ETAs across the European network.
The first production-ready ETAs are targeted for release in Q3-Q4 2025.
Positive Feedback
We were delighted to see many users appreciate the platform’s current functionality, particularly its role in managing cross-border train traffic and predicting arrivals.
A big thank you for your kind words about the development team and your encouragement to keep improving!
Looking Ahead
Your feedback is crucial to the development of TIS, and we are committed to acting on it.
We’ll continue to keep you informed about our progress and upcoming improvements.
Thank you for helping us make TIS even better!
