NTCC Cooperation Platform Kick-Off: Strengthening European Rail Traffic Management

Efficient and well-aligned cross-border traffic management is a key factor in achieving the EU’s goals of expanding rail transport and maximising the utilisation of rail infrastructure.

A significant milestone on this path was reached with the official kick-off of the National Traffic Control Centres (NTCC) Cooperation Platform, marking the start of a more integrated and collaborative approach to traffic control across Europe.

Towards efficient cooperation and harmonised traffic management

The NTCC Cooperation Platform will serve as a key forum for enhanced collaboration among Infrastructure Managers and their national traffic control centres. By fostering regular dialogue and coordination, the platform aims to support:

  • Improved cooperation in European traffic management
  • Harmonised procedures and rules for traffic control across borders

Kick-off meeting in Vienna: a collaborative start

The inaugural meeting took place on 24 September in Vienna, bringing together high-level representatives from Infrastructure Managers’ NTCCs across Europe.

Participants came together to:

  • Share national practices, challenges, and experiences in traffic control
  • Explore opportunities for procedural harmonisation, especially in cross-border operations
  • Build a shared understanding and foster a collaborative spirit among dispatching professionals

The event combined presentations, interactive sessions, in-depth discussions, and a visit to ÖBB’s NTCC at Vienna Main Station, offering a practical view into national operations and infrastructure.

The open and constructive dialogue enabled participants to exchange experiences and jointly identify areas for future cooperation.

Ongoing engagement and next steps

The NTCC Cooperation Platform will convene annually, with regular exchanges and follow-up activities continuing throughout the year.

This kick-off event marks an important step forward. RNE and its members reaffirm their commitment to working together toward a more efficient, harmonised, and resilient European rail traffic management system.
