RNE provides Infrastructure Managers and other rail sector stakeholders with analysis on the demand for passenger and freight transport services.

The purpose of transport market analysis is to support strategic planning and decision-making of Infrastructure Managers and other players involved in the use of existing infrastructure and in the development of new capacities and rail services across Europe.

The key deliverable of the RNE’s market analysis activities is a European Transport Market Study (ETMS) which outlines evidence-based scenarios of the future demand for rail infrastructure capacity. This demand will be derived from an innovative analysis of market-oriented rail service patterns in passenger and freight transport.

In addition, the ‘infrastructure’ (data and models) built to prepare the ETMS will enable RNE to offer tailor-made transport market analysis, responding to emerging challenges and opportunities in transport markets. Such analyses can be provided to the European Transport Corridors (ETCs), the Rail Freight Corridors and to other interested players considering new rail infrastructure and transport services.
