- [Railway Collaborative Decision Making (R-CDM)](https://rne.eu/traffic-management/r-cdm/): Nowadays, cooperation and data sharing are not that common amongst the units in the railway sector. Common data sharing between infrastructure managers, railway undertakings, terminals, and ports only works on a bilateral level, or in many cases, it does not happen at all.

- [European Traffic Management Network](https://rne.eu/traffic-management/etmn/): As a reaction to the EU Transport Strategy and European Commission document 'Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy from 2020', the RNE Traffic Management High-Level Group agreed to start an initiative supporting the European strategy goals. The European Commission plans to expand the rail market, addressing the needs of Railway Undertakings for access to high-quality capacity and maximising the use of rail infrastructure. A clear message also goes towards rail freight transport, which needs significant boosting through increased capacity, strengthened cross-border coordination and cooperation between rail Infrastructure Managers for better overall management of the rail network.

- [Funding](https://rne.eu/funding-activities-2/): Over the years, the European Commission has come to value our activities and to take a keen interest in our efforts, and we benefit from European Union funding. The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has awarded several funding proposals submitted under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). While some of the funding is directly supporting activities of the RNE Joint Office, RNE has also assumed the role as coordinator for common funding projects as a service to support its Members. These common funding applications shall facilitate the national implementation of European programmes such as TTR and Digital Capacity Management.

- [RNE Network Statement Common Structure](https://rne.eu/legal-matters/network-statements/): Article 27 of Directive 2012/34/EU describes the obligation for each rail Infrastructure Manager to publish a Network Statement. These Network Statements are key to market access, they present all the information that Applicants need to place requests for infrastructure capacity, in particular the commercial, technical and legal access conditions. They aim to provide Applicants wishing to operate services on a given rail network with a single source of up-to-date, relevant information in a transparent and non-discriminatory way.
- [OSS / C-OSS](https://rne.eu/market-performance/oss-c-oss/): In 2004, a network of One-Stop Shops (OSS) representing the IMs in international traffic was established. They constitute a single point of contact for the entire international route of a rail service.
- [RNE Approach and Structure](https://rne.eu/organisation/rne-approach-structure/): RailNetEurope (RNE) was set up in 2004 to help meet the challenges faced by the international rail sector.  RNE facilitates the operational international business of its Members by providing solutions that benefit all RNE Members as well as their customers and business partners. RNE's role is also to provide support as regards compliance with the European legal framework. This entails developing harmonised international business processes, templates, handbooks, and guidelines. In short, RNE's mission is to help its Members meet the challenges of the rapidly-changing railway sector in Europe and to promote international rail traffic.
- [Digital Train Information](https://rne.eu/it/rne-it-strategy/digital-train-information/): Possibilities for tracking and tracing trains are already available throughout Europe. All relevant information concerning a train run must be made available digitally and exchanged between all partners. This shall include information about the daily timetable, train tracking and tracing information as well as reliable forecasting information. These data have already been combined with train composition to capture locomotive, wagon and - possibly in the future - container movements. All information is based on common reference data (Digital Train Information) and must include information about the first and last mile, such as terminals and other railway facilities.
- [Digital Capacity Management (DCM)](https://rne.eu/it/rne-it-strategy/digital-capacity-management/): Digital Capacity Management (DCM) provides European workflows for coordinating, planning, and allocating international railway capacity through harmonised digital processes. Currently, planning and allocation processes are characterized by isolated tools, manual coordination, and varying levels of digital maturity. DCM addresses these gaps by providing central tools, definitions for national interfaces, and a European architecture with Telematics TSI based communication.
- [Digital Infrastructure Information](https://rne.eu/it/rne-it-strategy/digital-infrastructure-information/): The aim of Digital Infrastructure Information is to provide all relevant stakeholders with an up-to-date and complete description of the railway infrastructure. This includes the first and last mile information as provided in the Rail Facilities Portal, a clear definition of the points used for data exchange as contained in the TAF/TAP TSI 'Primary Location Codes' (CRD), the network overview used in several business applications and an overview of the lines (RINF - Register of Infrastructure). Up to now, the data have been and are maintained in different areas in different levels of quality. This regularly leads to different coding for one and the same element such as a location. For the business systems and information exchange, the IMs have converted their systems to the TAF/TAP TSI codes for primary locations (PLCs). As a result, most data exchange and central systems have been migrated in recent years to be compliant with PLCs. The same digital infrastructure information is used from planning to operation.
- [RNE IT Strategy](https://rne.eu/it/rne-it-strategy/): RNE's IT strategy has been developed over several years in close collaboration with the IT managers of RNE's Members. While its main pillars have existed since the beginning, new challenges, such as the Rail Freight Regulation, are being taken into account as they arise. The facilitation of use, development and implementation of software tools according to changing business demands is a major part of RNE's IT strategy, which is based on the four pillars illustrated in the graphic below.

- [RNE Network Members](https://rne.eu/organisation/rne-network-members/): RailNetEurope (RNE) started in January 2004 on the initiative of several European railway Infrastructure Managers and Allocation Bodies (IMs/ABs), who wished to establish a common, Europe-wide organisation to facilitate their international business. Today RNE counts 38 Full Members from over 30 different countries and 8 Associate Members (the Rail Freight Corridors). In total their rail networks add up to well over 230 000 kilometres of railway lines.

To achieve these improvements and ensure smooth communication in this complex environment, the timetabling process must be supported by European and national IT systems, using state-of-the-art technology. Having identified this need, the TTR project team has conceptualised a new European IT environment - the Digital Capacity Management (DCM).

- [TPM – Other Activities](https://rne.eu/traffic-management/train-performance-management/other-activities/): An important task related to Train Performance Management (TPM) is the functional management of the Train Information System (TIS) as the data source for performance analyses. The requirements are defined in the Guideline - Basic TIS requirements on data delivery for reporting purposes.
- [Train Performance Management on RFCs](https://rne.eu/traffic-management/train-performance-management/tpm-on-rfcs/): The Train Performance Management (TPM) project, carried out in 2009, was a first attempt to put in place a complete process for monitoring, analysing and improving performance of international trains, namely in terms of punctuality. 'TPM Guidelines' were developed to describe the overall train performance quality management process.

- [Corridor Management General Information](https://rne.eu/corridor-management/general-information/): Since its establishment in 2004, it has been RNE's aim to harmonise the international railway business core processes used by Infrastructure Managers (IMs) and Allocation Bodies (ABs). In late 2005 RNE adopted a Corridor Management approach to promote RNE's objectives and generate benefits on the main corridors carrying international rail traffic. By November 2015, all but one of the RNE Corridors had been replaced by Rail Freight Corridors (RFCs), with the last RNE Corridor being closed in August 2016.

RNE's activities in this area are based on commonly agreed principles and procedures, not relying on additional manual effort, and using clear topology, descriptions, and rules.
- [Train Performance Management](https://rne.eu/traffic-management/train-performance-management/): Train Performance Management entails the continuous process of monitoring and improving trains' performance by defining and measuring performance indicators and setting goals that are aligned with the railway sector's and Members' strategic targets. Among the key topics addressed were the upcoming Managing Board elections, a proposal for restructuring Managing Board and General Assembly documents, and the acquisition of cyber insurance, which is tied to the ongoing ISO27001 certification process and considered an essential step in strengthening RNE’s compliance efforts.

- [RNE RFC High Level Group Meeting, 12 November](https://rne.eu/event/rfc-high-level-group-meeting-12-november/): Overall, the high expectations of the meeting participants were satisfied. Some key discussions revolved around the RFC KPIs for 2024 in collaboration with the Traffic Management team, the future handling of the RFC map as presented by Communications, and clarifications provided by the Funding team. The presentation on the legal developments in light of the Capacity Regulation was well received and useful, especially in addressing RFC tasks in the Network Coordinator Project. Due to the prevailing uncertainty on the RFCs’ transition phase and the period after their repeal, the scope of RFC tasks incorporated into the Project is limited. Everyone involved in preparing and executing the meeting is cordially thanked. 
- [RNE Managing Board Meeting, 13-14 November](https://rne.eu/event/rne-managing-board-meeting-13-14-november/): The focus of this MB meeting was set on preparing the upcoming General Assembly on 10 December, where most of the final decisions will be made. Overall, the atmosphere was very constructive.
- [RailNetEurope Summit on Capacity Regulation](https://rne.eu/event/rne-summit-2025/): Where key decision-makers and industry leaders gather to explore strategies to enhance rail operations across Europe.
- [RNE MB – RFC Task Force, 20 August 2024](https://rne.eu/event/rne-mb-rfc-task-force-20-august-2024/): The RNE Managing Board appointed a dedicated task force in the fall of 2023 consisting of RNE MB and Joint Office members. The Task Force started and will continue to elaborate on the options for preserving the key functions and competences of the RFCs according to the currently available legislative proposals and their content. After being put on hold end of last year, the Task Force has, in the fall of 2024, been reactivated once more given the advancements of the legal framework for the revised TEN-T and Capacity Management regulations.
- [PRIME High Level IM Meeting, 27 June 2024 ](https://rne.eu/event/prime-hlim-meeting-27-june-2024/): During this meeting there were also relevant discussions on ENIM and the Network Coordinator. RNE MB Members Linda Thulin and Alfred Pitnik – in their function as PRIME (Platform of Rail Infrastructure Managers in Europe) Sub-Group Leaders - presented a report on the two governance scenarios on the ENIM and NC cooperation which are currently up to discussion.
