Updated Timetabling Handbooks
Since its foundation, RNE has provided handbooks to describe the process to allocate international paths. In recent years, it became obvious that new, innovative and ambitious new approaches are required to reflect the current market needs and to make railways more competitive.
Several projects – especially the TTR programme – were launched to define this future process. Now that these future processes have taken shape, it was also time to update the already existing handbooks to provide a first step into this future.
As such, in 2019 RNE’s Sales & Timetabling Team, together with the Sales & Timetabling Working and High Level Group, have created new and improved handbooks describing a modernised and improved path allocation process:
- New Procedures for Alteration of Allocated International Paths
- Updated Procedures for Modification of Allocated International Paths
- Updated Procedures for International Ad Hoc Path Request Management
- Updated RNE Process Handbook for International Path Allocation for Infrastructure Managers
Highlights are the definition of recurrent train paths (in contrast to individual train paths), guaranteed lead times, harmonisation in the acceptance of paths, definition of international impact of modified paths, first time ever description of the timetable updates, etc.
The RNE General Assembly approved these documents in its meeting on 4 December 2019 and they are now available in the downloads section of the RNE website.
In addition, the RNE GA requested to implement a monitoring procedure to check the state of implementation within RNE’s members. Also, some lead and processing times have been highlighted to require more ambitious approaches.
Therefore, the Sales & Timetabling Team will continue improving the process and keep updating the respective handbooks also in 2020.
